Crystal Palace have taken Ishmel Demontagnac on trial following his sacking by Walsall.

The 20-year-old was shown the door at the Bescot Stadium after what Saddlers boss Jimmy Mullen described as 'three years of indiscipline'; a state of affairs that came to a head when Demontagnac was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of a breach of the peace.

Palace boss Neil Warnock initially rejected the chance to take a look at Demontagnac, but was eventually convinced by his assistant Mick Jones to give the player a chance.

Jones has warned though that the forward will be given short shrift if he steps out of line at Selhurst Park.

"Neil has had a word with him and there are no second chances, he has one chance," Jones told the Express and Star.

"We are very aware of his past and history. He comes with a lot of baggage but with our manager he will not last two minutes if he steps out of line. He has been made aware of that.

Word in ear

"At the first sign of any trouble Neil will get the staff together and tell them to get him out of the club. There is only one person who can blow it now.

"I had to convince Neil to bring him in. An agent called him and he wasn't interested. The agent then called me and Neil said it was up to me.

Fee required

"Neil will be unsure until he proves he has got the dedication and application to be a professional footballer. If he shows that, then he has a chance."

Should Demontagnac sufficiently impress at Palace to earn a permanent stay then Walsall would require a fee to release his registration.

"There is a value we place on him. As a club we are entitled to retain his registration and that is what we will do," said chief executive Roy Whalley.

"Therefore any club wanting to obtain his services will have to negotiate with us."
