Krul: Long-term future unclear
Carlisle have clinched the loan signing of Newcastle United reserve team keeper Tim Krul on a one-month deal.
Krul has been brought in to replace the departing Ben Alnwick who has been recalled from his loan spell by parent club Tottenham.
Krul will provide short-term cover for The Cumbrians, but the young Dutchman has revealed that his own long-term future remains much less clear.
Krul was subject to a loan bid by Feyenoord last season, before Newcastle's Executive Director of Football Dennis Wise pulled the plug on the deal.
"Newcastle didn't want to loan me out, I could only be sold for the right price," the 20-year-old told Dutch fansite OnsOranje.
"Feyenoord met all these demands and it looked perfect. My head was already in Rotterdam.
"However, on a certain point Wise closed the door. I was disappointed."
Krul made his one and only appearance for Newcastle in a Uefa Cup tie against Palermo in 2006, but has since fallen well behind Shay Given and the long-serving Steve Harper in the pecking order.
As a result, the young keeper had sought a move away from the club. However with Harper's deal set to end in the summer, Krul's Newcastle future remains unclear.
"Sometimes I become crazy about it," admitted the Dutch U21 international.
"My future at Newcastle is now depending on Steve Harper who has an expiring deal. If he stays, I will go.
"A transfer in the winter break would be a real option, but until that time I will be loaned out to Carlisle United."
