Leyton Orient have snapped up West Ham United teenager Jordan Spence on a month's loan.

Spence has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Hammers, although he was on the bench for the opening three games this season.

He has now agreed a stint at League One side Orient and could make his debut in Tuesday's game at Huddersfield Town.

The defender is also eligible to play in Saturday's FA Cup second round tie against Bradford and Orient boss Martin Ling is happy to have added the 18-year-old to his squad.

Breathing space

"Jordan has come here to strengthen our centre-half position with Brian Saah out with his hamstring injury and the worry over Alton's (Thelwell) knee with so many games coming up," Ling told the club's official website.

"He will come here and give us breathing space in that department and Jordan will get a first taste of senior experience too.

"The loan will be beneficial for both parties - he will be with us for an eight-game period and then we will assess the situation from there."
