Republic of Ireland full-back Alan Maybury has been given the chance to earn a contract at Colchester United.

Maybury has yet to find a club for this season after spending the second half of last term on loan at Aberdeen from Leicester City.

He was not offered a new contract by Leicester and trained with Championship side Bristol City during the summer.

Aberdeen had previously been keen on a permanent deal for the 30-year-old, while Dundee United and Dunfermline Athletic have also been linked.

However, Maybury has spent the past fortnight training with Colchester as he looks to impress manager Paul Lambert.

The former Leeds United youngster will have the chance to catch Lambert's eye in a game after being named in Colchester's reserve team to face Romford in the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
