Peterborough director of football Barry Fry is determined to keep hold of manager Darren Ferguson.

Ferguson, son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, has earned rave reviews as he approaches two years in charge of the London Road outfit.

He guided the club to promotion into League One last season and on Saturday saw Posh draw 1-1 with top-flight outfit West Brom at the Hawthorns in the third round of the FA Cup.

Ferguson's name is now regularly linked with managerial vacancies in the Premier League, with Fry even placing a cheeky price on his manager's head.

Real Madrid

He told The Sun: "Darren is a great manager, destined for the top. Whenever a job becomes vacant his name is mentioned.

"There's only been one when his name hasn't been mentioned and that was Real Madrid - but he will be next year.

"He's that good, he's fantastic. Our main problem is hanging on to him. It's not about keeping the players because we just say 'no'.

"The chairman showed his intent at the start of the season when we turned down £2million from Wolves for (Aaron) Mclean and £2.5million for (Craig) Mackail-Smith.

"But if the right club comes in for Darren, we wouldn't want to stand in his way. As long as someone pays £8.4million compensation, we will let him go!"

Explodes

Fry revealed that Ferguson has inherited some of his famous father's managerial traits and believes he can guide Peterborough all the way to the highest level of English football.

He added: "We have a great manager and great players. He wants to go into the Premier League and we want him to but we want him to take us with him.

"He is a very level-headed young man. He doesn't get excited whether he wins 6-0 or loses 6-0. He is very cool, calm and collected.

"He explodes every now and then. Not very often but when he does everyone knows about it. They don't want him to repeat it."
