Matt Heath is expecting to still be with Colchester United next season despite manager Paul Lambert insisting he will be undertaking a summer clear-out.

The Us suffered a disappointing League One campaign in finishing 15 points off the play-off positions, despite relegation from the Championship the previous season.

Former Leeds defender Heath mustered only 14 appearances in the league prompting some to speculate he would be part of the close-season cull.

However, the 27-year-old has two years left on his Us deal and has no plans to leave the Essex club

Still a U

"I've still got two years on my contract, so as far as I'm concerned I'm still very much a Colchester United player," Heath told the East Anglian Times.

"That's the case with most of the lads. The manager spoke to us all individually, about the season that has just finished and about his hopes for next season.

"We will have to wait and see what happens over the summer, but I'm still a Colchester player unless I hear something different."
