Huddersfield Town have confirmed the signing of Robbie Simpson from Coventry City, subject to the player passing a medical.

The 24-year-old's two-year stint at Championship level will come to an end as he drops down to League One to join the Yorkshire club.

Simpson made 28 starts and netted seven goals for the Sky Blues but was unable to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Ricoh Arena.

Following reports suggesting the transfer fee is in the region of £500,000, Huddersfield chief executive Nigel Clibbens has moved swiftly to quash such claims.

"I can confirm we agreed terms with Coventry City on Monday for the transfer of Robbie Simpson," Clibbens told his club's official website.

"An offer of a three-year contract has been accepted following discussions and Robbie will join us after a medical and the paperwork is concluded.

"We don't usually comment on fees but we need to set the record straight this time. A fee has been agreed but the figures quoted in the media are off the mark.

"We are paying a fee now with some conditional payments which could be payable in the future."
