MK Dons are planning to develop stadium:mk in order to meet World Cup hosting regulations.

With England bidding to stage either the 2018 or 2022 event, cities across the country are battling to be considered as host venues.

The Dons are hoping their home ground will be in the running, with £20million put aside for improvements.

Members of the England 2018 inspection team visited the stadium last week to view their plans, which include expanding the capacity to 43,044 fans.

Club chairman Pete Winkelman said: "Stadium:mk is already a venue we can be proud of and with our architects now preparing to meet World Cup standards it can be one of the UK's premier sporting arenas.

"We are fortunate in that we have the space on the stadium site to create all the additional structures and facilities needed to host matches of global magnitude."
