Northern Ireland defender Tony Capaldi has returned to Cardiff City after his loan period with Leeds expired.

The 28-year-old left-back joined the Whites in November on a short-term switch from the Bluebirds and made four appearances during his time at Elland Road.

He made his debut against Kettering in the FA Cup, and played in league matches against Oldham, Huddersfield and Brentford.

Capaldi, who was an unused substitute in Leeds' miraculous 1-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday, was originally signed by manager Simon Grayson as cover for the defence.

However, with Andy Hughes, Aidan White and returning Ben Parker all vying for a spot at left-back, Capaldi's stay was not extended.

He had spoken of his desire to make his deal with the League One leaders a permanent one.
