Norwich chairman Alan Bowkett has strenuously denied that the club were prepared to sell key men in January.

Rumours began circulating on transfer deadline day that the Canaries would be willing to discuss the potential sale of their most valuable assets as they sought to trim their mounting debt.

Wes Hoolahan was reported to have become a target for Hull City, while the future of Grant Holt and Chris Martin was also thrown into doubt.

A number of clubs, aware of Norwich's precarious financial position, were believed to be ready to test the Canaries' resolve with last-minute bids.

However, Bowkett insists no player within the first-team squad will be sold against manager Paul Lambert's wishes and has rubbished reports suggesting otherwise.

"I am not prepared to talk about it other than I think we have clearly got three footballers at the front of our team who are very attractive to teams way above our current playing performance level," he said in the Pink'un.

"It doesn't make sense. You sell a player for £1m, £2m, but just by going up into the Championship we stand a chance of getting £3.7m extra revenue through broadcasting and a share of parachute payments - it just doesn't make sense."
