Gillingham boss Mark Stimson insists he has no intention of quitting following the club's poor run of form.

The Gills are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference after failing to win in their last seven League One games, while they were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Accrington Stanley.

A 4-0 defeat at Brentford on Saturday saw some fans call for Stimson to be axed, but the manager is determined to fight for his future.

"I take responsibility for the performance and I know I have let the chairman down and the supporters down," Stimson, whose team have picked up just three points away from home all season, told Kent Online.

"I won't walk away, I was brought up in the East End, and you face it eye to eye and get on with it.

"It's not a nice feeling, and something you don't want to hear as a manager. It happens, and I probably wasn't the only one around the country who had that thrown at him on Saturday.

"It's part and parcel of the job, and I have always said I'll do my best until the chairman tells me any different. He is the one that will make that decision, he employed me, and every manager is hired to be fired."
