Bristol Rovers have extended Doncaster striker Paul Heffernan's loan stay until the end of the season.

Heffernan will now remain at the Memorial Stadium until 8th May to aid the ninth-placed Pirates' promotion push to the Championship.

His initial one-month stay was due to end on Wednesday but the 28-year-old Irishman has earned an extension after impressing boss Paul Trollope.

The striker scored the second goal of his loan spell in Saturday's 4-0 thrashing of Swindon, and is building a good partnership with Jo Kuffour.

But Heffernan will not be eligible to feature in the play-offs should the Pirates finish in the top six.

Good partnership

Rovers manager Trollope told the club's official website they are happy to have secured the player, who is out of contract at the end of the season and looks almost certain to have played his last game for Doncaster.

Trollope said: "We're pleased to have agreed that, we were pleased with his performance again on Saturday, pleased that he scored another goal and he's forming a good partnership with Jo.

"They're getting to understand each other and it's a major boost for us.

"He's enjoying his football and playing regularly. His sharpness is coming back and hopefully Saturday's performance is a sign of things to come."
