Manager Greg Abbott insists that out-of-sorts striker Richard Offiong is staying at Carlisle after a proposed loan switch to League Two side Rotherham collapsed.

Offiong has scored just once in 18 appearances since moving to Brunton Park in August and the former Hamilton forward looked set to join the high-flying Millers on Friday, but the move fell through.

However, Abbott has revealed that an injury to fellow striker Darryl Duffy has given the 26-year-old another chance to impress.

He told skysports.com: "It has fallen through now and Richard will be staying here to fight for a place in the side.

"It didn't work out for whatever reason, but Darryl's injury has given Offiong a chance to impress if called upon."

Duffy came off during the first-half of the Cumbrians' goalless draw at Wycombe on Saturday, but Abbott insists that he has not suffered a serious injury.

"Darryl Duffy picked up a little groin injury, but we don't think it is too serious.

"We will take another look at it when it has settled down, but it doesn't look too bad at the moment."
