Rochdale have taken Danny O'Donnell on trial after the defender was released by Crewe Alexandra.

O'Donnell was not offered a new contract by Crewe at the end of last season and has joined Dale during the club's warm-weather training camp in Spain.

He could be viewed as a possible replacement for Craig Dawson if the highly-rated centre-back leaves Spotland before the season gets underway.

The 24-year-old former Liverpool trainee joins trialists David Buchanan, Lucas Akins, Alan Goodall and Matty Done in boss Keith Hill's travelling party.
