Brighton boss Gus Poyet was happy to have secured a first home win of the season in the 2-1 victory over Walsall.

Goals from Ashley Barnes and Marcos Painter saw Brighton go 2-0 ahead before Jon Macken's late strike gave the Saddlers hope, despite being down to 10 men.

Poyet conceded his men looked "uncomfortable" in the opening 45 minutes, but tactical changes then helped them improve sufficiently to clinch victory.

The Uruguayan said: "At half-time it was time to talk and sort it out, and in the second half we had plenty of options. It was an important goal to break the deadlock."

Goalscorer Barnes claims he will fight for his place in the Albion side, despite reports suggesting Poyet is looking to add to his forward line before the close of the transfer window on Tuesday.

He said: "If a new striker comes in, I'm happy to fight for my place."
