The former Bolton boss succeeds Alan Irvine at the helm of the club following his sacking on Thursday.

Irvine's departure came on the back of a miserable run of results for the Owls, culminating in a 5-3 midweek defeat to Peterborough.

That result leaves the Hillsborough club 12th in the current League One standings, a spot that falls well short of their promotion hopes this season.

Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric, who brought Megson to Leicester in September 2007, confirmed his interest in the manager earlier this week.

Megson is highly rated by the Serbian, despite lasting just six weeks with the Foxes before moving to the Premier League with Bolton.

The 51-year-old, who spent two stints with Wednesday during his playing career, has managed a number of clubs including Norwich, Blackpool, Stoke, West Brom and Nottingham Forest.

His biggest success came at The Hawthorns, where he guided the Baggies to promotion to the Premier League in both 2002 and 2004.
