Wesley Verhoek insists his failed switch to Nottingham Forest had nothing to do with home sickness and says he is still targeting a move abroad.

The ADO Den Haag forward was on the brink of joining Championship side Forest this summer but the deal collapsed at the last minute.

Reds chief executive Mark Arthur suggested Verhoek, who had also been linked with Rangers, had pulled out due to the fact he was missing his family in Holland.

But Verhoek is adamant he would have no problem moving abroad if the club was right for him.

Nonsense

"The stories circulating that I would not move abroad to play football are nonsense," he told De Telegraaf.

"That remains my dream, but at the right club."

Verhoek says he is satisfied with his decision to remain in Den Haag for another season, particularly in light of the rumours linking manager Steve McClaren with a move away from Forest and their disappointing start to the season.

"(Forest are) 18th in the league with five points from five matches and Mr McClaren has thought to leave," he added.

"I was just sitting there in a town where it made no sense to go."
