Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam believes his side fully earned their promotion to the Premier League at Wembley on Saturday.

The Seasiders clinched a 3-2 victory over Cardiff in the Championship play-off final to reach the top flight for the first time in 40 years.

And Scotland international Adam, who scored Pool's opening goal with a remarkable free-kick, was elated to see his side claim the ultimate reward after striving so hard this season.

"It was a tough match and the desire to come back from two goals down was tremendous, it shows our spirit," Adam told Sky Sports 1.

"I think we deserve to go where we're going to go and to get to that place. I can't speak, it's been unbelievable."

The 24-year-old was shocked but delighted to see his effort hit the back of the net, and is looking forward to rubbing shoulders with the big names in the Premier League next term.

"With the efforts I've had all season I thought I had no chance of scoring," he added. "But luckily enough it went in.

"The lads deserve an enormous amount of credit.

"Blackpool at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge - you can't ask for anything else."

Adam joined Blackpool from Rangers at the beginning of the season, and admits coach Ian Holloway's confidence when he arrived made him believe promotion was in reach.

"The manager said to me at the start of the season, 'Come here and hopefully we'll get to the Premier League', and we've done it," he said.

"We're just going to enjoy the occasion, enjoy our summer and wait for the fixtures to come."

Pool forward Brett Ormerod, who scored the £90million match-winner for his side on the stroke of half-time, could not speak highly enough of Holloway's efforts this season.

"I don't know what to say to be honest," said Ormerod. "I'm absolutely speechless.

"I don't think anyone thought (we could do it) at the beginning of this season. We got written off, but the gaffer changed it. He deserves a knighthood."
