Swansea City defender Angel Rangel says he is more than happy at the club following speculation linking him with a move away.

The Spanish right-back made 38 appearances in the Championship last term and has become an important part of the Swans' first-team since his move in 2007.

Newly-promoted Blackpool are thought to be considering a £1million swoop for Rangel, 27, while he has reportedly caught the eye of Fulham and Wigan in the past.

But following the arrival of new manager Brendan Rodgers to the Liberty Stadium, the Spaniard claims he wants to stay.

"I've said to the new gaffer and to the chairman that I am happy," he told Wales Online.

"He (Rodgers) knows I have been linked with other clubs. He has said he wants me to stay and I have told him I want to stay.

"The gaffer said he knows what kind of player I am and that he wants me to be an important part of the team.

"I am very pleased with that. He has said I will have an attacking role down the right side which is good for me. He has given me a freedom to go forward and I enjoy that side of the game.

Hard work

"Every summer is the same, so I don't have much to say. I am concentrating on Swansea City and working hard this season.

"I've said I wanted to play in the Premier League if I had the chance, but so far I do not know of anything. I am just concentrating on Swansea.

"At the end of the day these things could be just rumours and only (chairman) Huw Jenkins knows if there has been contact from other clubs.

"He has not said there has been any approach from Blackpool, so there is nothing me for me to say about it.

"If there is something I will give my opinion on it, but I am concentrating on Swansea."

Rangel only has one year left on his existing contract and Swansea may opt to cash in on the defender rather than risk him leaving on a free next summer.

But Rangel insists he would consider a new contract offer from the Welsh outfit if it comes, although he is in no hurry.

He added: "To be honest I am not in a rush, we've got plenty of time. Maybe in a month or so we will hear something, but I am happy with having a year left.

"I've got a year left on my contract, so there is plenty of time to think about it.

"I would consider a new contract with Swansea, it is something that could be good for me and the club.

"At the moment we haven't arrange to speak about anything, but maybe in the close future we will."
