Wycombe have confirmed that Blackpool have signed winger Matt Phillips from the club.

As exclusively revealed by skysports.com last weekend, Blackpool had lined up a surprise move for the highly-rated Phillips.

Phillips has joined the Seasiders for an initial fee of around £325,000, with it set to double depending on whether the club stay in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old is an England youth international and regarded as a bright prospect for the future and, despite owner Steve Hayes' admission that he wanted the player to stay, he could not be denied a dream of playing in the top flight.

Realistic fee

Hayes told the club's official website: "We didn't want Matty to leave, but how could we deny him the chance to further his career by moving to a Premier League club?

"We offered him a new, long-term contract several months ago but he was reluctant to commit himself and once Blackpool came in he wanted to go.

"It was important that the deal was right for Wycombe and we believe we've negotiated a realistic fee for a player who wasn't even a regular in our first team.

"Matt has been a model professional in his time with us and I have nothing but good things to say about him and his family. I wish him well."

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway is thought to be chasing up to five other players before the transfer window closes at 6pm on Tuesday, with last season's hero DJ Campbell said to be in talks about a move back to Bloomfield Road.
