Norwich slipped up at the top of League One as Southampton held on to earn a surprise 2-0 away win at Carrow Road.

The Canaries lost their first game at home in the league since the opening day of the season as Lee Barnard grabbed his first goal for the Saints in the first half and bagged a second with 13 minutes to go.

Southampton's excellent run in the league continues, with Norwich ending the game with 10 men after Darel Russell was sent off for violent conduct.

The result will have been received well at Elland Road, but Leeds left it late against Brighton to earn a dramatic 1-1 draw.

Gus Poyet returned to his old club as his Brighton side earned a point in West Yorkshire thanks to a penalty from Glenn Murray in the final quarter of the game.

But Robert Snodgrass struck in injury time for Leeds to salvage the match, as Adam Virgo was sent off for Albion.

Charlton got back to winning ways to reignite their push for a return to the second-tier at the first time of asking.

Kyel Reid scored for the Addicks just before the half hour mark and David Mooney netted nine minutes after the break to give the Londoners a 2-0 win over Yeovil at The Valley.

The result against the Glovers was vital for Charlton, as Colchester also managed a win - 1-0 at home to Oldham.

The Latics had held on for an hour at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, but they were undone by a Danny Batth effort to leave them in trouble in the bottom half.

Colchester are looking good value for a promotion push and the victory puts them within touching distance of Leeds.

Swindon consolidated their position in the play-off places with a 2-0 home win against mid-table Carlisle.

Charlie Austin netted the opener on 31 minutes and Billy Paynter doubled the lead on 54 as the Robins' excellent form continues.

Fellow play-off hopefuls Huddersfield also picked up a victory, 2-0 the final score away at Hartlepool, as they moved into the play-off places.

The Terriers secured all three points as Gary Roberts slotted home a penalty after 17 minutes and on loan Neal Trotman put the game out of sight after the break.

Hartlepool will be looking over their shoulders once more, and they dropped in the table thanks to Tranmere's win over Leyton Orient, among other bad results for Pools.

Rovers managed a 2-1 victory in front of their home faithful at Prenton Park thanks to goals from Ian Thomas-Moore and Marvin Sordell in the first half - with Jonathan Tehoue scoring a late consolation.

Meanwhile, Wycombe are not giving up their fight for survival and they hung on for a 1-0 win at home to Millwall.

The Lions are out of the play-off places after the defeat, with Neil Harris missing a penalty at Adams Park, but Wycombe are now only five points from safety, although the Chairboys were reduced to 10 men in the second half when Gareth Ainsworth was sent off.

MK Dons gained on the side from South Bermondsey after smashing Southend 3-1 at Stadium:MK.

Paul Ince's team romped home thanks to goals from Mark Carrington (2) and Andros Townsend, with Matthew Paterson grabbing a consolation for Southend.

Stockport remain rooted to the bottom but they managed a 1-0 win away at Exeter.

The Grecians drop into the bottom four and the threat of relegation looms large over the South Coast club.

Unfortunately for Exeter, Gillingham managed a 1-0 win at home to Bristol Rovers.

Mark Stimson's future remains uncertain but Simeon Jackson's last-minute strike secured a crucial three points and a first win in 10 games for the Gills.

Finally, Walsall built on their win at Leeds in midweek with a 2-1 triumph at home to Brentford.

Charlie MacDonald had put the Bees in front on 17 minutes but Alex Nicholls and a late strike from Troy Deeney completed the comeback.
