Oldham Athletic moved into the play-off places with a point at Hartlepool United, while the 1-1 draw was enough to drag the home side out of the drop zone.

Ronnie Moore is looking to guide Oldham into post-season football, but they came up against a side scrapping for their lives and in no mood to lie down.

Lee Bullock fired Pools ahead on nine minutes, driving home a crisp effort following good play from Thomas Butler.

Oldham were handed a controversial penalty for handball right on the stroke of half time and Luke Beckett made no mistake from the spot.

Hartlepool looked the more likely side to claim victory after the break, with Adam Boyd having a goal disallowed and seeing a header superbly tipped over by Lee Grant, but they could not force a winning goal.

Tranmere Rovers eased any lingering doubts about being dragged into the relegation fight with a 3-0 win over Port Vale.

The two sides came into the game locked together on 48 points, but it was Rovers who surged to victory.

Calvin Zola converted a cross from Chris Greenacre to open the scoring on 28 minutes.

Stephen O'Leary handed them a cushion when slotting home from close range on 58 minutes and Steve Davies' excellent solo effort 12 minutes from time capped a fine display from the home side.
