Harewood and Lovenkrands celebrate
Newcastle and West Brom increased their lead at the summit of the Championship after both sealed convincing wins on Saturday.
Top-of-the table Newcastle made easy work of beating Swansea City, who had not lost since September.
The home side raced into a three goal-lead by half-time with a Marlon Harewood brace sandwiching an effort from Peter Lovenkrands.
West Brom were equally impressive as they grabbed a comprehensive 4-0 win at Hillsborough over Sheffield Wednesday.
Simon Cox fired home two in the opening half-hour before Jerome Thomas added another just before half-time.
Chris Brunt scored against former club to finalise the win with just five minutes left.
Leicester City remain in third despite only claiming a 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe United.
Martyn Waghorn put Leicester ahead just three minutes into the match, but in the final minute Martyn Woolford levelled for the Iron.
The draw for Leicester now means that West Brom - who are still two points off Newcastle - are six points clear of the Foxes.
Nottingham Forest are up to fourth after they dispatched Doncaster Rovers 4-1 at the City Ground.
Billy Davies' men went ahead in the first-half when Gareth Roberts put through his own net to open the scoring.
Wes Morgan doubled the lead on the hour before Robert Earnshaw and Lewis McGugan sealed the win. Billy Sharp added a late consolation for the visitors.
Queens Park Rangers move up to fifth despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Coventry City at Loftus Road.
Leon Best had given the visitors the lead, but the home side battled back well with Jay Simpson levelling before Akos Buzsaky fired them ahead.
But Coventry levelled late on as Richard Wood headed home his first goal for the club. They also had to hold on with 10 men as Stephen Wright was sent off late on.
Gordon Strachan and Mark Cooper are both still without win since taking charge of their respective sides as Middlesbrough were held to 2-2 draw at bottom-of-the-table Peterborough United.
Dave Kitson grabbed a brace for Boro to give them the lead twice but Peterborough battled back on each occasion, firstly through George Boyd and then late on with Shaun Batt firing home.
Sheffield United's upturn in fortunes continued at Ashton Gate as they claimed a 3-2 win over Bristol City.
Darius Henderson's first-half brace looked to have done the job for the Blades, but Louis Carey pulled one back for the home side before Alvaro Saborio levelled deep into stoppage time.
But Henderson was not finished as United secured the win just moments later as the former Watford man completed his hat-trick.
Crystal Palace are just a point behind Watford after a 3-0 win over the Hornets at Selhurst Park.
Palace were 2-0 up in the opening six minutes as Victor Moses and Alan Lee pounced before Darren Ambrose added a third after the break.
Derby County came from behind to earn a key win over Reading at Pride Park.
Gylfi Sigurdsson gave Reading the lead just before the hour mark, but the advantage lasted just a matter of minutes as Paul Green levelled for the home side.
Rob Hulse then won it for Derby with 17 minutes left and things went from bad to worse for the Royals as Shane Long was sent off.
The game at Home Park was abandoned midway through the second half, to the delight of Plymouth but to the despair of Barnsley - who were 4-1 up when the heavens opened and made the pitch unplayable.
