Carlisle boss Greg Abbott was overjoyed with his players as his side bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 win at Tranmere.

It took Carlisle just three minutes to go ahead. Lee Miller tapped home after Rory Loy flicked on a cross by Matty Robson.

Tranmere were almost level within 60 seconds, but Carlisle goalkeeper Adam Collin made an excellent fingertip save from Enoch Showunmi before the visitors doubled their lead with a 35th-minute penalty, converted by James Berrett.

Abbott said: "It was an important result for us. We bounced back after a disappointing run and I think overall we deserved the victory.

"When you have a small squad like we have it tests your resources when you have more than one game in a week.

"Tranmere put us under massive pressure in the second half, but we had a good set of characters in our side. It was a real collective effort. We worked exceptionally hard to get the result."
