Tranmere have taken former Liverpool midfielder John Welsh on trial, skysports.com understands.
Welsh is available on a free transfer after being released by Hull City last month.
The midfielder started his career at Liverpool, but he left for the Tigers in 2006 after a successful loan spell at the KC Stadium.
Welsh struggled to hold down a place in Phil Brown's side last term and he ended last season on loan at Bury before being released.
Rovers boss John Barnes has invited the former England Under-21 international to join the club for pre-season training so that he can cast an eye over the 25-year-old.
Barnes is the market for midfield reinforcements after seeing Anthony Kay and Steven Jennings leave this summer and he could offer Welsh a move to Prenton Park if he impresses on trial.
