Tranmere star Charlie Barnett has agreed a new deal at Prenton Park, skysports.com understands.

Barnett's existing deal expired at the end of last month and he could have left the club on a free transfer, but he has decided to stay on at the League One outfit.

The former Liverpool starlet, who won the FA youth cup with the Reds, enjoyed a superb season with Tranmere last term and the club were keen to retain his services.

The highly-rated 20-year-old is believed to have agreed a new 12-month deal at Rovers.

The news will be a massive boost for Rovers boss John Barnes as he continues his plans for the start of the new season.
