Tranmere Rovers midfielder Alan Mahon has been ruled out for up to four weeks after suffering torn ankle ligaments.

Mahon picked up the injury against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup first-round tie at Prenton Park earlier this month and sat out Tuesday night's replay win.

An MRI scan has now shown up the full extent of the damage, with the 31-year-old requiring three to four weeks on the sidelines.

The former Republic of Ireland international rejoined Tranmere in the summer on a three-year contract from Burnley.

He has made 16 appearances since returning to his first club, with his only goal coming in a 3-2 home defeat by Walsall in September.
