Tranmere have signed Newcastle youngster Ryan Donaldson in a one-month loan deal.

Skysports.com reported earlier this week that Donaldson, who can play in midfield or up front, was close to sealing a temporary move to the North West.

The 20-year-old came through the youth ranks at St James' Park, playing six times so far since making his senior debut in August 2009.

The move represents the second loan spell of Donaldson's career, having spent two months at Hartlepool last season.

Tranmere boss Les Parry was delighted with the capture of the youngster, who could make his Rovers debut in the home game against Wycombe on Saturday.

"I'm really pleased to be able to bring Ryan to the club," said Parry.

"He's a talented young player who I've watched a lot for Newcastle's reserves and last season for Hartlepool and he's always impressed me.

"He's good on the ball and has an eye for goal and he'll be an excellent addition to our squad. I'd like to thank Newcastle manager Alan Pardew for allowing Ryan to join us."
