Tranmere boss Les Parry was satisfied after Rovers and Bournemouth contested a goalless draw at Prenton Park on Saturday.

Defence dominated in a dogged affair. Jose Baxter saw a cross deflected on to the top of the crossbar off of Stephane Zubar just before the half-hour mark.

Visiting goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan saved at the second attempt from the hard working Lucas Akins after 70 minutes and three minutes later he did well to hold a Baxter effort at the near post. Tranmere were lucky in the 88th minute when Stephen Purches headed off the line from Ash Taylor.

Parry admitted he was a little frustrated that his side were unable to make the breakthrough.

"We wasted a lot of chances, we hit the crossbar and we saw one effort headed off the line. But a draw was probably a fair result," Parry said. "Bournemouth played the better football but we had the better chances. It is good we have kept a clean sheet.

"The first half was not a great performance although I felt quite confident. I was not so comfortable in the second half but overall I certainly can't be disappointed. We put some quality crosses into the box but did not get on the end of them. We need to be attacking the ball more."
