Bradford stunned Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium to book their place in the Northern Section quarter-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Tom Bender's serious injury saw Accrington's game with Tranmere abandoned, Sheffield United left it late against Rotherham and Preston progressed despite a major scare against Morecambe.
Rochdale needed penalties to defeat Walsall, Oldham edged out Scunthorpe and Chesterfield overcame Notts County.
Bradford produced the shock of the night after twice taking the lead away to League One outfit Huddersfield before eventually progressing 4-3 on penalties after holding their nerve in the shoot-out.

Accrington's game with Tranmere was abandoned after 39 minutes following a serious injury to Tom Bender which saw the 18-year-old treated on the field for some time before being taken to hospital.
Ched Evans struck deep into added time to send Sheffield United through to the next phase of the tournament with a 2-1 victory over local rivals Rotherham at the Don Valley Stadium.
Preston contrived to throw away a 2-0 lead away to Morecambe but held their nerve in an epic shoot-out to scrape through 7-6 on penalties.
Rochdale were another side to enjoy success from 12 yards as their encounter with Walsall needed penalties to decide the winner after a 1-1 draw, with the home side triumphing 3-1.
Veteran striker Shefki Kuqi scored the only goal of the game as Oldham edged out League One rivals Scunthorpe at Glanford Park.
Chesterfield scored three times in 14 second-half minutes to overturn a 1-0 deficit away to Notts County and move to within three games of a day out at Wembley.
