Doncaster boss Dave Penney has paid tribute to Carling Cup hero Sean Thornton after his stunning strike capped a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday.
The midfielder has had a difficult time since arriving from Sunderland in the summer, but returned to form to help Rovers reach the quarter finals.
"It was a great goal for Sean and he's looking much brighter and sharper these days, and long may that continue," praised Penney.
The manager was delighted with the result, but refused to let his emotions run away with him.
"It doesn't get anywhere near when we got back in the Football League but it is up there," he insisted.
"We caused them a lot of problems, we stopped them playing, passed it well, and to keep a clean sheet against a Premiership side is excellent.
"I just never get too up or down because we've had plenty of poor results here."
