Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll has been offered assurances he will not be sacked following a dreadful start to the season.

The Championship club sit bottom of the division after failing to win a league match and they were knocked out of the Carling Cup by Leeds in the second round.

O'Driscoll has come under the spotlight as a consequence and there have been reports his time in charge at the club could be set to come to an end after five years.

Doncaster have taken just one point in the current campaign but, ahead of Saturday's match against Crystal Palace at the Keepmoat Stadium, the under-fire boss has been backed.

Chairman John Ryan said: "His job is safe. Clubs sack managers and still get relegated."

Doncaster were fortunate to avoid relegation by six points last season after failing to win any of their last 12 matches.

They finished one place above the bottom three and there have since been suggestions the stylish football favoured by O'Driscoll is no longer proving effective.
