Swindon Town boss Paolo Di Canio made a winning start to life in League Two, but Crawley Town were pegged back late on and AFC Wimbledon lost.

Tyrone Barnett netted the first ever league goal for Crawley Town as the newcomers drew 2-2 with Port Vale.

Marc Richards equalised for the Valiants just before the interval but Kyle McFadzean scored early into the second half to restore the advantage for the visitors.

The Red Devils then had John Dempster dismissed late on for a second bookable offence and the home side made their numerical advantage pay when substitute Louis Dodds notched an equaliser in injury time.

Swindon Town boss Di Canio made it a winning start as a Callum Kennedy penalty on the stroke of half-time and second half efforts from Oliver Risser and Aden Flint sunk Crewe.

Rene Howe and Lee Mansell scored to earn a share of the points for Torquay after Justin Richards had earlier notched a quick-fire brace for Burton, whose day then got even worse when Tom Parkes was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Lewis Montrose scored a 26th minute winner as Gillingham beat Cheltenham, but the Gills finished with ten men after Luke Rooney was sent off for serious foul play.

Own goal

Bradford City lost as Danny Hylton's 18th minute opener and Robbie Threlfall's own goal handed Aldershot the spoils at Valley Parade, although James Hanson netted a late Bantams' consolation.

Dagenham & Redbridge also won away at Macclesfield Town courtesy of Medy Elito's strike on the hour mark, but the Daggers finished with ten men after Chris Lewington received his marching orders for deliberate handball.

Lewis Grabban's goal soon after the re-start gave Rotherham a home victory against Oxford United, while Southend United also claimed an opening home win as Bilel Mohsni's 14th minute strike downed Hereford.

Carl Fletcher scored a last-gasp equaliser as financially-challenged Plymouth held Shrewsbury Town.

Barnet struggled last term but got off to a winning start at Morecambe thanks to Mark Byrne's late effort, but the clash between Northampton and Accrington at Sixfields finished goalless.

In the early kick-off, AFC Wimbledon's first league game ended in defeat as Adam Virgo netted a late penalty to hand Bristol Rovers a 3-2 win after the Dons had battled back from two goals down.
