Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio praised his squad for battling an early onslaught against Crewe before coming away with a 3-0 victory.

The Alex flew out of the blocks at the County Ground and passed up numerous chances to establish an advantage before being made to pay for their profligacy.

Callum Kennedy opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time after Adam Dugdale was adjudged to have fouled Billy Bodin. But there was no question who the second half belonged to as Town skipper Oliver Risser added a second from 30 yards and Aden Flint a third from close range.

Di Canio told Town's official website: "We have to be honest, the first half-hour we were in trouble, they deserved to score but they didn't and we won. After half an hour we were in a little bit of trouble but the lads were amazing and they didn't lose their confidence.

"We were too shy to start with, when it was important to squeeze together and stop their players. But in the second half they were fantastic and we deserved to win."

He added: "I said to them to have a drink but it's a sparkling water. A good team does not celebrate too long. We play on Tuesday and the real celebration only comes at the end of the season."
