Dario Gradi was left to rue Crewe's poor second-half display as Swindon triumphed 3-0 on the opening day of the season.

The Alex flew out of the blocks at the County Ground and passed up numerous chances to establish an advantage before being made to pay for their wastefulness.

Callum Kennedy opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time after Adam Dugdale was adjudged to have fouled Billy Bodin. But there was no question who the second half belonged to as Town skipper Oliver Risser added a second from 30 yards and Aden Flint a third from close range.

Gradi told Crewe's official website: "We started really well and could have been 3-0 up quite easily in the opening 25 minutes. We were the side asking all the questions and then we go in behind because of a penalty that I wouldn't have given.

"I said to them before the game that it is how we react to disappointments. We didn't overcome that and rarely threatened in the second half. I don't think we put a move together of any note. Those who were on the ball didn't pass it, they wanted to whack it and those who didn't have it didn't want it, so we didn't perform in the second half.

"Overall I thought we looked a lot better first half than them and they ran rings around us in the second half."
