Cheshire Police have praised Crewe and Port Vale fans who attended the derby game between the two clubs on Saturday.
Tensions had been running high in the build up to the match at Gresty Road after last season's corresponding fixture resulted in disorder and 15 arrests.
However, fans of both clubs heeded the police's appeal for calm and, although three arrests were made, the day passed off without incident.
Commander for the operation chief inspector Chris Brierley said: "We appealed to the fans beforehand to behave, which they did, and there was no repeat of the scenes that marred the game last year.
"It is pleasing that such a high-profile fixture passed without any major issues and it is to the credit of the fans involved for behaving as they did."
