Gillingham youngsters Dean Rance and Connor Essam have joined Blue Square Bet North side Bishops Stortford on one-month loans.

Defender Essam and midfielder Rance are both graduates of the Gills' centre of excellence and manager Andy Hessenthaler believes it is important they they play first-team football.

"I think these lads need games," said Hessenthaler.

"We've got no reserve team this season so I think it would be good for them to go and play football in a competitive environment."
