Gillingham midfielder Luke Rooney is out to prove he is worth a regular place in Andy Hessenthaler's starting line-up.

The 20-year-old made his first start of the season in the 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury and despite the result is hoping to keep his spot.

Rooney told Kent News: "I see this as my chance now.

"I've never played two games in a row, but I think I did myself justice on Saturday.

"I haven't gone behind the gaffer's back at all. He knows it's my biggest qualm with him that I have never had a run in the team, I just feel I need to have that little bit more faith in me."
