Former Millwall striker Kevin Lisbie insists that although Gillingham were interested in him, he has no interest in dropping down to League Two at this stage in his career.

The Jamaican international has been looking for a new club since leaving Ipswich at the end of last season, but spent last season on loan at Championship rivals Millwall.

The Lions seemed keen to turn the 32-year-old's stay into a permanent one, but the two parties could not agree on terms.

However, Lisbie, who has scored over 60 goals during his career, told skysports.com that he is poised to join a Championship club on trial this week.

"Well, being a free agent means that transfer windows don't really apply to me, but it looks like I will be joining a Championship club to train with Monday, so I'll take it from there really.

Concrete

"There has been some interest lately, but nothing really concrete, so I'm hoping things will pick up a bit now that the transfer window has closed.

"Obviously, the free agents are the ones allowed to join a club now, so that gives us a slight advantage and we will see what happens.

"I spoke with both Gillingham and Southend at the beginning of pre-season and they were both interested in offering me something, but I'd prefer to play at a higher level, to be honest.

"I feel that dropping down to League Two would be a massive jump having played in the Championship last season.

"I'm quite fit and I would like to leave the option of playing in either the Championship or League One open as long as possible really."
