Port Vale boss Micky Adams has praised his side's fighting spirit after they came from behind twice to draw with Crawley.

Louis Dodds spoiled Crawley's big day with a stoppage-time goal to earn Vale a 2-2 draw.

The League Two title favourites led twice through goals from Tyrone Barnett and Kyle McFadzean. Marc Richards' curling free-kick brought Vale level in the first instance.

"We kept going and I think, quite clearly when you look at Richards and Pope, they both need games and they need time" Adams told the club's official website. "You could tell that they have not had the same amount of time as the rest of the boys have had in terms of game and training time. But both will have benefited from the amount of time they had out on the pitch today.

"I thought the lads that came on transformed the game. We went 4-4-2, we had to go for it and we looked a lot better for it. We'll take the point, it's the first one on the board. The season is up and running but we will get better.

"Crawley are a good side. They have spent a lot of money assembling that squad and as (Crawley manager) Steve Evans has told me during the game, he is going to spend more."
