Brighton manager Gus Poyet has revealed that defenders Tommy Elphick and Adam El-Abd will not return to training until next month.

The two centre-backs suffered injuries at the end of last season and are taking longer than expected to regain full fitness.

El-Abd sustained a serious foot problem in April and Elphick ruptured his Achilles against Notts County in May.

Poyet admits they are still not ready to return, saying: "Adam and Tommy are a couple of weeks behind.

"We thought they would be training this coming week but now we are looking at the beginning of October."
