Full-back Painter will now miss Wednesday night's eagerly-anticipated Carling Cup clash with Liverpool at the Amex through suspension after two bookings, the second a harsh handball.
"I feel sorry for Marcos," said Poyet. "The ball hits his hand from two yards and now he is going to miss Liverpool at home. Is that fair?"
