Charlton Athletic extended their lead at the top of the League One table with an impressive victory at Sheffield United as Huddersfield Town maintained their remarkable unbeaten run.

Leyton Orient secured a first win of the season with a shock success over Preston North End, while Hartlepool United suffered defeat for the first time this term at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday.

MK Dons were ultimately convincing winners over Notts County as Bury, Exeter City and Rochdale al registered wins at the bottom end of the table.

Yann Kermorgant and Bradley Wright-Phillips scored in the space of two second-half minutes to earn Charlton a 2-0 triumph at promotion rivals Sheffield United.

Huddersfield are still to taste defeat in 2011 in League One as Jordan Rhodes scored a goal in each half en route to an eye-catching 4-0 win away to Brentford.

Dean Cox scored twice late in the first half as bottom club Orient came from behind to beat Preston, who missed a second-half penalty, 2-1 at home and register a first three points of the season.

Hartlepool's unbeaten run came to an end as Reda Johnson scored the only goal of the game as Sheffield Wednesday won 1-0 in the North East.

Notts County were made to pay for Julian Kelly's fourth minute red card as MK Dons ran out 3-0 winners on home soil.

Exeter gained only a second success of the campaign as goals from Daniel Nardiello and Guillem Bauza saw off Oldham Athletic 2-0 at St James Park.

Bury came from behind to win 3-1 at fellow strugglers Yeovil Town, with second-half goals from David Amoo and Peter Sweeney proving the difference.

Rochdale were another team to overturn a deficit as Ashley Grimes notched a goal in each half during a 2-1 home win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Michael Antonio's goal on the half hour earned Colchester United a 1-0 win at Chesterfield, while Tranmere and Bournemouth drew 0-0 at Prenton Park.

Scunthorpe United gained a first away win of the season as Michael O'Connor's 90th minute goal was just enough to secure a 2-1 success at Stevenage.

Matty Robson netted a 50th minute equaliser as Carlisle United drew 1-1 at Walsall, who had gone in front through Will Grigg.
