Bournemouth striker Jayden Stockley has been handed a new contract following the teenager's impressive start to the season.

The 17-year-old scored his first two professional goals in the Cherries' Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Hereford on Tuesday and the club took no time in offering their prospect a new long-term deal.

Cherries boss Lee Bradbury told the Daily Echo: "Jayden deserves a new contract because he has worked extremely hard.

"He has been a real thorn in the side for teams when he has come on and is a threat. He has got all the right attributes and is a player we feel we can work with and bring on."

Stockley was thrust into the limelight at a young age, having first being named amongst the Bournemouth substitutes at the age of 15, but Bradbury feels the club did the right thing to keep him away from centre stage.

He added: "We have taken him out of the firing line and worked with him behind the scenes. I think he is reaping the benefits now. He came back in pre-season and showed he was hungry to do well. He really wants to be successful and is willing to learn."
