Warren Cummings has urged Bournemouth fans not to become too incensed by the number of departures from the Seward Stadium.
Cummings has made more than 200 appearances for the south coast club since joining from Chelsea in 2003, but other players have not lasted as long at the Cherries.
Supporters have been riled by the sales of Jason Pearce, Danny Ings and Danny Hollands over the last few months, leading Cummings to tell fans to be patient.
"Players leave because they can get three or four times their salary elsewhere," he told the Daily Echo.
"People were always going to leave this club, regardless of who was in charge.
"I understand the supporters wanted us to keep the squad together because we did so well last season. But, in this day and age, you simply can't stop a player leaving. It's disappointing but there is nothing that can be done."
