Brentford missed their chance to climb to the top of League One at home to Colchester while Sheffield United went down to a heavy loss against Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield.

Clayton Donaldson scored the Bees' goal, which they thought was enough to take them top. But the Griffin Park crowd were stunned into silence as Anthony Wordsworth levelled deep into stoppage time for a share of the spoils.

In the big game at the top of the table, Sheffield United's attempts to strengthen their position at the summit fell apart at the hands of Huddersfield at Brammall Lane.

The Terriers stretched their unbeaten run in the league to 33 games in the process, largely helped by a brace from striker Lee Novak in a 3-0 win, which also ended the Blades' unbeaten start to the season.

Thumping

In the first ever meeting between these clubs, Stevenage ran riot against Sheffield Wednesday at Broadhall Way.

Graham Westley's side scored three times in the first 17 minutes as the hosts ran out 5-1 winners in the end with five different goalscorers. The win took them above Wednesday.

Notts County's attempts to progress up the table were halted by Exeter at St James' Park as both teams had to settle for a point apiece.

Carlisle moved above Tranmere in the standings thanks to a 2-1 win at Prenton Park. Two first half goals were enough to take the points despite Lucas Akins' reply.

Oldham climbed above Walsall after a tight 1-0 win at Banks's Stadium. Midfielder Chris Taylor was the hero for the Latics.

Ed Upson was the matchwinner for Yeovil at home to Wycombe as they moved safely into mid-table.

On top

Chesterfield came out on top against Bury in a match-up from two of the promoted sides from League Two. The hosts made it two wins in a row thanks to loan star Leon Clarke's goal just after the hour mark.

A goal from Jason Kennedy at Spotland was enough to send Rochdale three points clear of Scunthorpe.

And finally, in the game between the lowest scorers against the worst defence, Leyton Orient, without a win so far this season, tackled a Bournemouth side on a five-match losing streak. However, it was the visitors who ended up 3-1 winners against the 10-man O's at the Matchroom Stadium.
