Bradford have confirmed the appointment of former Barnsley and Rochdale manager Steve Parkin as boss Phil Parkinson's new assistant.

Parkin, 45, had been working as first-team coach at Scunthorpe before agreeing to team up with Parkinson.

Parkinson told the club's official website: "Just like when you're looking to sign a player, it's important that you bring in the right person for the role and not just the first person available.

"This is why it's taken some time to replace [former assistant] Colin [Cooper] on a permanent basis.

"But I'm confident Steve is the right man to bring in and he will perfectly complement the existing staff that we have at the football club. I'm sure he'll be an excellent appointment."

Parkinson, who replaced former manager Peter Jackson at the end of last month, had been without a permanent number two since the departure of Colin Cooper two weeks ago.
