John Sheridan hailed his Chesterfield players after Leon Clarke's first career hat-trick inspired a 4-1 win over Carlisle.

The striker scored for the third game running following his loan move from Swindon as the Spireites swept the Cumbrians aside to record their third consecutive victory.

"Our game was very good," Sheridan said after the League One success at the B2Net Stadium on Saturday.

"As a team we played really well and scored four goals which is always very pleasing. We were excellent and I think the football that was played by both sides was very good.

"Our work ethic was very good and when you work hard and you try and pass it around, you've got a good chance of getting something out of the game.

"I think we deserved to win the game against a very good side who've done really well over the years in this division, so to perform well against them is very pleasing."

Clarke has now scored five goals in his first three games, and Sheridan added: "Leon was in the right place at the right time, he was in-between the posts which is what good strikers do. But I thought all the front four worked their socks off and caused problems."
