New manager Uwe Rosler is targeting promotion with Brentford ahead of the new season.

The German this summer succeeded Nicky Forster, who had replaced Andy Scott in February on a short-term basis at Griffin Park.

There has been some scepticism about Rosler's appointment, but an impressive pre-season, including a win over Stoke, and some shrewd signings have raised expectations.

Brentford finished 11th in League One last season and ninth in 2009/10 to leave Rosler targeting improvements ahead of a first game of this campaign against Yeovil on Saturday.

"The club has now been in mid-table twice," he said in the Daily Telegraph. "The distance is not so big - four or five places, or 10 points.

"I won't say we are favourites, there are other clubs with much higher budgets, the league is tough, but my big aim is that we always have a chance to be in there.

"Bournemouth last year showed clubs like us what can be achieved with a smaller budget by getting into the play-offs."
