Uwe Rosler secured his first away win as Brentford boss and felt his side were worthy of their 2-1 triumph at Exeter.
The Bees went ahead when James Dunne inadvertently put through his own goal before Clayton Donaldson rose to head home from six yards to make it two-nil. Guillem Bauza reduced the arrears from the penalty spot.
"I was a little nervy. I think we could have put the game to bed early on," said Rosler. "We got the first goal at the right time and the second goal is crucial when you play a team like Exeter, but we managed to get that as well.
"I have a lot of respect for them. They never gave up and they have a great spirit. They caused us problems, but overall I think we did well and we deserved our win.
"I thought we started the second half well and I felt we dealt with them comfortably until (Tom) Nichols came on.
"The number 21 (Bauza) dropped off a lot from our back four and they didn't get as much protection from our midfield and they had to make choices. Thankfully, they made the right choices."
